Maccabi Tel Aviv Explores Signing Dynamo Kyiv Defender Oleksandr Syrota

Israeli football club Maccabi Tel Aviv is reportedly considering the acquisition of Oleksandr Syrota, a Jewish defender currently with Dynamo Kyiv. Syrota played for Maccabi Haifa during the 2024-25 season and is not part of Dynamo Kyiv's plans for the upcoming season. His contract with the Ukrainian club extends until the end of the 2026-27 season.

Given that transfer windows in most European countries have closed, there's a possibility Dynamo Kyiv might release Syrota for free to avoid paying his salary. During his single season in Haifa, Syrota earned approximately 400,000 euros and started in 19 matches, including all playoff games. However, Maccabi Haifa opted not to exercise a purchase option for him valued at 2.5 million euros.

Ukrainian media estimated his salary last season at around 300,000 euros. He began the past season with Konyaspor, where he saw limited playing time. In January, he was loaned to Samsunspor, playing alongside Dia Saba, where he was a regular starter and impressed as the team was promoted. Despite his performance, Samsunspor replaced almost their entire squad, except for two players including Saba, leading to Syrota's return to Kyiv. Samsunspor also had a purchase option but did not exercise it.

Ukrainian media reported in August that Syrota was informed he was not in Dynamo Kyiv's plans, but he has struggled to find a new club since then.
