Israeli Defense Firms Showcase at Poland Expo Amid French Restrictions

Following French President Emmanuel Macron's efforts to limit the presence of Israeli defense companies, many have turned to a major exhibition in Poland. Twenty-one Israeli defense firms are currently exhibiting at the MSPO exhibition in Poland, which opened this week. This comes just three months after similar Israeli company displays were reportedly blocked at the Eurosatory exhibition in Paris. Among the prominent exhibitors are major players like Rafael and Israel Aerospace Industries, alongside significant international market participants such as Aeronautics and Orbit, and smaller companies like D-Fend and Roboteam.

The companies are showcasing a diverse range of products. Rafael is a global leader in air defense and tactical missiles, known for its Spike series. Aeronautics is presenting its Dominator MALE drone, capable of 20 hours of flight time and a maximum takeoff weight of 1,900 kg. Centrx, a producer of anti-drone technology acquired by Shoundes last November, was selected to provide security for the upcoming World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico.

The MSPO exhibition is taking place as Poland solidifies its position in Europe, with a projected historic defense budget of approximately 200 billion zloty (around $53.8 billion) by 2026. The event attracts around 1,000 companies globally, including major international firms like Lockheed Martin, as well as direct competitors from France and Turkey.

Meanwhile, the US administration is grappling with budget shortfalls. The Pentagon is seeking ways to cover extraordinary operational costs stemming from ongoing conflicts in 2026. Senior House Democrat Rosa DeLauro criticized the Pentagon for allegedly attempting to divert billions of dollars from national health centers through an interagency agreement. US defense spending has been impacted by intense combat, extensive National Guard deployments, rising fuel prices, and incomplete reimbursement for border protection operations.

In June, the White House informed Congress of a need for an additional $67.1 billion for the 2026 defense budget. Defense Secretary Pete Buttigieg stated that $37.5 billion would be required by September due to combat operations. Additionally, the cost of producing F-35 fighter jets has increased by nearly 11% over the past two years, with the average cost of an F-35A rising from approximately $82.5 million to $92 million.

Singapore is set to deploy its F-35 aircraft as part of a modernization program through 2040. The contract for 20 stealth fighter jets is valued at approximately $4.059 billion. Twelve F-35B aircraft will be stationed at Ebbing Air National Guard Base in Fort Smith, Arkansas, with the first expected in fiscal year 2026. Pilot training for these aircraft will also occur at this base. The remaining eight F-35s will be physically transferred to Singapore and based at Tengah Air Base starting in the fourth quarter of fiscal year 2029.

Elbit's subsidiary, Fuse, has launched a series of drone swarm systems, reflecting the growing importance of unmanned aerial vehicles since the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine and intensified by events since October 7, 2023. These systems enable coordinated attacks by multiple drones, challenging air defense systems. Fuse's portfolio includes reconnaissance and attack drones, swarm systems, ground-based systems, and urban environment drones, all managed by the unified operating system 'Dominion-X'.
