Trump Predicts Iran's Collapse Post-Election Amid Escalating Tensions

U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran "has very little of its country left" and suggested that the conflict with the Islamic Republic could conclude after the upcoming U.S. midterm elections in November. While acknowledging the possibility of negotiations, Trump indicated the U.S. is not currently seeking them, expressing confidence in continued pressure on Tehran.

Intelligence assessments from Israel's Mossad, revealed at a Washington conference, suggest that sustained U.S. economic and military pressure could lead to the downfall of the Iranian regime by the first quarter of 2027. Former Mossad chief Dedi Barnea had previously estimated that sanctions could topple the regime within a year. Current assessments indicate that after approximately six months of U.S. pressure in the Strait of Hormuz, Iran could be decisively impacted early next year, with one U.S. official present at the conference describing the potential outcome as a "new Middle East."

Concurrently, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a stern warning to Iran during a Rosh Hashanah gathering, asserting that the regime is on its "last legs." He declared that Iran cannot fathom Israel's response plans if it attacks and emphasized Israel's strength and determination to defend itself and strike its enemies, stating, "They are not attacking us. Iran is refraining from that, and it knows why."

Defense Minister Israel Katz warned that Iran's desperate situation, stemming from heavy economic pressure and fear of internal revolt, might drive it to drastic actions, including an attack on Israel. However, Katz added that any such Iranian attack would free Israel from all constraints in striking Iran, vowing to hit both military and civilian national infrastructure, including energy facilities, and return Iran to the "Stone Age."

Amidst these statements, oil prices surged past $100 a barrel for the first time since July, with Brent crude rising 2.2% to $100.07. This increase is attributed to renewed U.S.-Iran confrontations in the Strait of Hormuz, following the U.S. military's destruction of five Iranian oil tankers after Iran attempted to strike a U.S. warship with ballistic missiles.

Retired General Yiftah Ron-Tal commented on Netanyahu's stated goal of regime change in Iran, calling it a "drama" and suggesting it was likely coordinated with the U.S. President, believing it would bring about a historic security change in the Middle East and the world.
