Strategic analyst Shlomo Filber said on Channel 14 that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu now faces a major test after the new U.S.-Iran memorandum of understanding was signed. In his view, the next decisions will show whether Israel is willing to stand firm against American pressure in the northern arena.
Filber argued that he is certain Netanyahu will prefer confrontation with Donald Trump over pulling Israeli forces out of Lebanon. He said, “I know almost for certain that Israel will not agree to withdraw from Lebanon.”
According to Filber, Israel’s political leadership is determined to preserve what it sees as security gains in the north, even if that creates tension with Washington. “It will insist on it מול ארה”ב, even if that means we enter into a conflict,” he said.
He added that Israel is unlikely to back down under U.S. pressure and will keep pushing to maintain those northern security achievements.
