Cleaning Worker's Photo Leads to Arrest in Tel Aviv Park Robbery
A cleaning worker in Tel Aviv inadvertently captured a key piece of evidence in his own robbery, when a photo he took of the park before starting his shift later helped police identify a suspect. The worker routinely photographs his work area before and after cleaning. On the day of the incident, one of his photos of the "Hebrew Battalion Park" in southern Tel Aviv included the man who allegedly robbed him of his phone shortly thereafter. The suspect, a 38-year-old Tel Aviv resident, was arrested by police approximately two months after the incident, according to a report by Mako.
Following the alleged robbery, the cleaning worker shouted for help, and a passerby pursued the suspects. The passerby managed to apprehend one of them and recover the stolen phone. The cleaning worker then filed a complaint with the police.
During the investigation, the worker showed investigators the photos he had taken in the park. Police were able to identify the suspect from one of the pre-cleaning photographs. A second suspect, allegedly involved in the robbery, has not yet been apprehended.
The arrested suspect appeared in Tel Aviv Magistrate's Court on Tuesday. Police requested an extension of his detention for six days on suspicion of joint robbery, but the judge extended it by only three days.
