Israeli Police Arrest Eritrean Suspect for Stealing Phones from Bathers in Tel Aviv

Israeli police detained an Eritrean man over the weekend on suspicion of stealing mobile phones from bathers at Tel Aviv's Cliff Beach. During a proactive operation by Tel Aviv district officers, patrols spotted the suspect riding a bicycle without a helmet and stopped him for inspection. Officers discovered five mobile phones in his pockets, believed to be stolen from people swimming at the beach. The phones were subsequently returned to their owners, and the suspect was taken in for further questioning.

This arrest follows a series of thefts and robberies reported recently in Tel Aviv. In separate incidents, two suspects were apprehended for allegedly assaulting and robbing residents in public spaces, including an elderly man in his 70s who was robbed of his phone at the Ramat Aviv mall. Additionally, last month a woman was arrested for breaking into a nursing home in Kiryat Gat, where she reportedly stole phones, cash, and other valuables from residents, some of whom were Holocaust survivors.

The police continue to investigate and address the rise in theft-related crimes in the Tel Aviv area to enhance public safety.
