Court Awards Minister Dudi Amsalem NIS 98,500 in Libel Suit Against Limor Livnat
A Jerusalem court has ruled in favor of Minister Dudi Amsalem in a libel lawsuit he filed against former minister Limor Livnat, ordering Livnat to pay Amsalem approximately NIS 98,500 in damages and legal expenses. The lawsuit, filed in 2020, stemmed from accusations Livnat made in various media appearances and publications concerning political events that occurred over two decades ago.
Livnat had accused Amsalem of attempting to promote his associates to positions and of acting against her politically after she refused his alleged demands. Amsalem consistently denied these claims, asserting they were false fabrications that damaged his reputation. After approximately four years of legal proceedings, the court sided with Amsalem.
In a statement following the ruling, Amsalem's office declared it a "significant legal and public victory," stating the decision clears his name of the long-standing accusations and concludes a prominent political-legal dispute within the Likud party.
