Amsalem Wins Defamation Suit Against Former Minister Livnat
Minister Dudi Amsalem has won a defamation lawsuit against former Likud minister Limor Livnat, who was ordered to pay NIS 98,500 in damages and legal costs. The court ruled that Livnat's repeated accusations against Amsalem constituted libel and rejected her defense of "truth in publication."
Amsalem stated that the legal battle was not about money but about "truth and my name." He explained that Livnat had persistently made "difficult and false accusations" against him in the media over several years, which he felt could have been perceived as fact by the public if repeated often enough. "Therefore, I chose not to remain silent," Amsalem said, expressing his satisfaction that the court affirmed the truth.
He concluded by emphasizing that while criticism and disagreement are acceptable, fabricating and repeating stories about him for years was not. "My name is not for grabs. The truth is not for grabs. Today, justice has been done," Amsalem declared.
