Yavne City Council Approves Major Projects and Budgets

The Yavne City Council convened for a special Rosh Hashanah session, approving a wide array of projects, budgets, and plans aimed at enhancing the city and improving residents' quality of life. The meeting began with the presentation of awards to outstanding municipal employees for the Hebrew year 5786, attended by Mayor Roi Gabay, deputy mayors, council members, and city officials. Mayor Gabay praised the employees for their professionalism and dedication.

During the session, Councilman Meir Dahan was appointed Deputy Mayor, tasked with promoting initiatives and investments in the city's older neighborhoods. The council allocated NIS 5 million for public spaces in these areas, including a central park, with three potential locations under consideration. Additionally, a budget was approved to advance the rehabilitation of the Yavne River, addressing drainage challenges and improving the urban space along its banks. This project aims to prevent winter flooding and create a more natural, well-maintained river environment, involving complex planning and phased implementation.

The council also greenlit NIS 2 million for upgrading public spaces in the northern industrial zone, focusing on sidewalks, safety-related repairs, and landscaping. Further approvals included approximately NIS 450,000 for renovating the early childhood center, NIS 600,000 for improving and establishing dog parks across the city, and NIS 350,000 for accessibility work in classrooms for students with special needs. An additional NIS 600,000 was allocated for pedagogical space adjustments and winter closures in public buildings.

Significant financial approvals also included over NIS 3 million from the Israel Land Authority for development and infrastructure needs, and NIS 1 million for public infrastructure and the pneumatic system, particularly for repairs in the Green Neighborhood. The city is currently engaged in legal proceedings with Rakeetec regarding responsibility for infrastructure work. Finally, the council approved the 2025 public complaints report by the city comptroller and the Interior Ministry's 2024 audit report.
