Liverpool are on the verge of signing Spain and Osasuna winger Victor Muñoz after, according to reports in England, pulling off a late move that derailed his expected transfer to Newcastle. The 22-year-old, who is in Spain’s current World Cup squad, has a release clause of 40 million euros.
The article says Muñoz had been very close to joining Newcastle, but sources now claim he will instead move to Liverpool on a long-term contract. Liverpool are said to have stepped in as they search for attacking reinforcements on the wings, particularly after Mohamed Salah’s departure.
Muñoz came through the youth academies of Barcelona and Real Madrid and made four appearances for Real Madrid’s senior team. He joined Osasuna in 2025 for about 5 million euros and scored six goals in 34 La Liga matches last season.
Liverpool’s need for attacking depth has grown further because Hugo Ekitike is expected to miss action until 2027 with an Achilles tendon rupture, while Federico Chiesa could also leave. ESPN also reports that Liverpool admire Yan Diomande of RB Leipzig and Bradley Barcola of Paris Saint-Germain, but face strong competition from other leading European clubs for both.
