Real Madrid announced on Thursday that French centre back Ibrahima Konaté has joined the club, making the transfer official after leaving Liverpool. The 27-year-old signed a deal through 2030, giving him four seasons at the Santiago Bernabéu. The report describes the move as another step in a new project under José Mourinho, who was appointed this summer.
Konaté is Real Madrid's third official signing so far, after the club also confirmed the arrivals of full back Marc Cucurella and midfielder Bernardo Silva. According to reports, right back Denzel Dumfries is expected to be the next addition.
Born in Paris, Konaté began his career at Paris FC and Sochaux, where he also moved up to the senior team. He then joined RB Leipzig on a free transfer and spent four seasons in Germany before moving to Liverpool.
At Liverpool, he won the Premier League in 2025 and the FA Cup in 2022. That same year, he was on the losing side in the Champions League final against Real Madrid. Konaté has made 28 appearances for France and is currently with the national team at the World Cup in the United States. He was part of France's silver medal team at the previous World Cup in Qatar.
