Real Madrid has officially signed France center back Ibrahima Konate, bringing the 27-year-old to the Santiago Bernabeu as a free agent after the end of his Liverpool contract. He agreed to a four-year deal that will keep him in Madrid until June 2030.
The club announced the move on June 18, 2026, while Konate is away with France at the World Cup in North America. The signing was one of the main promises in Florentino Perez’s election campaign, made before he was re-elected as president of the club.
Konate becomes Real Madrid’s third signing of the current transfer window, after Bernardo Silva and Marc Cucurella. His arrival is meant to add depth to an injury-hit back line that has struggled with serious fitness problems in recent seasons.
At Real Madrid, Konate will join a French core that already includes Kylian Mbappe, Aurelien Tchouameni and Eduardo Camavinga. The move continues the club’s recent strategy of landing major free agents from the top tier of world football.
