Real Madrid announced on Thursday that France defender Ibrahima Konate has signed for the club, leaving Liverpool after five years. The 27-year-old has agreed to a contract that runs until 2030, and the move is now official.
Konate is Real Madrid’s third formal signing, after the club also announced the arrivals of defender Marc Cucurella and midfielder Bernardo Silva. Reports say right back Denzel Dumfries is expected to be the next addition as Madrid begins a new era under Jose Mourinho, who was appointed this summer.
Born in Paris, Konate began his career at Paris FC and then Sochaux, where he also made his senior debut. He later moved on a free transfer to RB Leipzig, spent four years in Germany, and then joined Liverpool.
At Liverpool, Konate was part of the squad that won the Premier League in 2025 and the FA Cup in 2022. He also played in the Champions League final that Liverpool lost to Real Madrid that same year. Konate has 28 caps for France and is currently with the national team at the World Cup in the United States, after helping France to a silver medal at the previous tournament in Qatar.
