Crime Boss Eyal Negar's Detention Extended Amid Ongoing Investigation

Israeli police received approval from Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara to seek a further extension of detention for crime boss Eyal Negar, who has been in custody for 30 days. Negar, considered the successor to slain crime lord Beni Shlomo, has become a primary target for Israeli police since Shlomo's organization dissolved. Following Shlomo's murder, Negar brokered a truce with his sworn enemies, the Levi brothers, a pact that has endured and led to internal power struggles within Shlomo's former organization, with some viewing Negar as a "traitor."

Police are set to request the extension from the Ashkelon Magistrate's Court. Negar was arrested a month ago by Lahish District Police officers who utilized an undercover informant. As his detention period was nearing its end while investigations continued, police sought special permission to prolong his custody. Negar has remained silent during interrogations, claiming investigators are harassing him.

Negar's attorney, Ness Ben Noun, stated, "It is unclear how a detained person can be under investigation for 30 days without the investigators being able to present a single piece of evidence against him." Just six weeks prior, police thwarted an attempt on Negar's life, neutralizing a bomb placed in his vehicle based on intelligence received.

According to police sources, Negar has been consolidating his criminal control in Ashdod, a city identified as highly lucrative. His alleged criminal activities include extortion, illegal lending, and various other illicit enterprises.
