IDF Establishes New Corps for Drones, Robots, and AI
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) will establish a new corps dedicated to unmanned aerial vehicles, robots, and artificial intelligence, according to a directive signed last week by IDF Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Eyal Zamir. Zamir announced the creation of the new branch during the graduation ceremony for the 153rd naval officers' course, stating it will oversee the rapidly developing field of autonomous systems.
The new corps will focus on developing robotic capabilities across land, air, and sea environments. Zamir explained that these unmanned systems will be capable of operating alongside manned combat units or undertaking autonomous missions, thereby enhancing battlefield operations and preserving human lives.
The official launch of the new corps is scheduled for Hanukkah in December 2026. Currently, the IDF utilizes numerous drones and autonomous systems, but the establishment of a dedicated corps aims to consolidate these efforts under a single command structure.
