IDF Ground Forces Commander Announces Formation of New Robotics Corps
At the recent ceremony marking the change of command for the IDF Engineering Corps, Major General Nadav Lotan, commander of the IDF Ground Forces, revealed plans to establish a dedicated Robotics Corps within the ground forces. This initiative stems from lessons learned during recent combat operations and ongoing technological advancements. Lotan explained that robotic capabilities have already been integrated operationally during the war, with robotics platoons actively participating alongside maneuvering forces, enhancing battlefield effectiveness and reducing risks to soldiers.
Lotan emphasized that this is just the beginning of a broader process, with the Robotics Corps expected to be formally established and expanded in the coming years based on current foundations. While investing in technology, the IDF will continue to prioritize its personnel, underscoring the Engineering Corps’ motto that people are the most valuable asset.
He also addressed the ongoing strengthening of combat capabilities post-war, including enhanced demolition skills, countermeasures against explosive threats, expanded underground warfare capabilities, and broader engineering support for maneuvering units. Lotan highlighted the importance of learning from the war’s lessons to improve future operations.
The commander solemnly noted the heavy toll on the Engineering Corps, with 721 fallen since its inception and 91 casualties in the recent conflict alone. He reaffirmed the commitment to support wounded soldiers and their families beyond the end of hostilities. The ceremony also marked the appointment of Brigadier General Eli David as the new chief engineer, succeeding Brigadier General Yoav Turchansky.
