Pilgrims Brave Difficult Journey to Rabbi Nachman's Tomb in Uman
Thousands of Breslov Hasidic followers are undertaking a challenging pilgrimage to the tomb of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov in Uman, Ukraine, a journey that can involve up to 18 hours of flights and navigating checkpoints. Adherents believe that the greater the difficulty of the journey, the greater the religious merit.
One pilgrim, Daniel, described the experience as feeling like "a kind of Garden of Eden, where worries are forgotten." Since the fall of the Soviet Union, the annual pilgrimage has evolved into a significant spiritual festival attracting Hasidic, secular, and traditional Jews.
