Ukrainian Police Prepare for Large Breslov Hasidim Gathering in Uman for Rosh Hashanah
As tens of thousands of Breslov Hasidim prepare to gather in Uman, Ukraine, for Rosh Hashanah, Cherkasy Regional Police Commander Major Mazhni Yaroslav Yvanov and his deputies conducted an inspection of the sites around Rabbi Nachman of Breslov's grave. They met with Rabbi Natan Ben Nun, chairman of the Breslov Union in Uman, to discuss detailed logistical and security preparations for accommodating the large influx of pilgrims. The police leadership reviewed readiness measures to ensure smooth and safe operations during the holiday period.
This visit is part of ongoing coordination efforts between Ukrainian authorities and the Breslov Union, who work continuously with all relevant agencies to facilitate the annual pilgrimage and ensure the well-being of visitors throughout the year. The goal is to enable thousands of worshippers to stay in Uman with peace of mind during the Rosh Hashanah celebrations.
In parallel, the Knesset approved in preliminary reading a bill proposed by MK Eliyahu Ravivo to establish a statutory center commemorating Rabbi Nachman of Breslov. The center would operate under public law, with a governing council, funding provisions, and the authority to create a research institute, archive, and memorial museum dedicated to Rabbi Nachman's legacy. The Minister of Culture and Sports would oversee the center's implementation. The bill passed unanimously with 19 votes in favor and will proceed to the Education, Culture, and Sports Committee for further discussion.
The legislative initiative highlights the national importance of preserving Rabbi Nachman's memory, akin to existing centers commemorating key figures in Israeli history and religious leadership. This development coincides with the heightened preparations in Uman, underscoring the significance of Rabbi Nachman’s heritage to both Ukrainian and Israeli communities.
