Nigerian Striker Fortune Bassey Joins Maccabi Jaffa
Nigerian forward Fortune Bassey, who previously played for Hapoel Petah Tikva during the 2023/24 season, has officially signed with Maccabi Jaffa of the National League. Bassey, 27, was released from his contract with Ferencváros this summer and will join Jaffa as a free agent, aiming to help the team avoid relegation.
Bassey's potential move to Jaffa was first reported by Sport Channel. He began his career in the Czech Republic with Bohemians after being discovered through a talent program in Nigeria. In 2022, he transferred from České Budějovice to Ferencváros for 1.5 million euros, but struggled to establish himself in Hungary and was loaned out multiple times.
During his stint with Hapoel Petah Tikva, Bassey scored six goals in 34 appearances across all competitions, though he could not prevent the team from being relegated. Maccabi Jaffa secured their first win of the season earlier on Friday, defeating Hapoel Afula 1-0 away. The club hopes that with Bassey's addition, they can climb further away from the relegation zone.
