Meir Porush Splits From United Torah Judaism to Form New Faction
Minister Meir Porush and candidate Elyakim Stark, representing the Shlomi Emunim and Belz Hasidic factions respectively, have announced their intention to run in the upcoming elections under a separate party within the United Torah Judaism (UTJ) list, rather than under the Agudat Yisrael platform. The new party will be registered as "Chomat Torat Yisrael," according to journalist Avi Moscow. This move will result in the UTJ Knesset list comprising three distinct parties: Degel HaTorah, Agudat Yisrael, and the newly formed faction.
Political sources clarified that these are primarily procedural and technical steps aimed at securing political independence for Shlomi Emunim and Belz. The goal is to allow them independent management of party funding and to prevent complete subordination to the internal decisions of Agudat Yisrael's mechanisms. The split is not expected to harm the joint run of all UTJ factions in the Knesset elections.
