Israel Conducts Large-Scale Emergency Drills in Eilat and Arava

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF), in collaboration with the Israel Police, Magen David Adom (MDA) emergency medical services, the fire department, the Ministry of Health, hospitals, and local authorities in Eilat and the Arava region, conducted extensive drills simulating complex emergency scenarios. The exercises, held in multiple crowded locations, focused on responding to terrorist attacks and rocket impacts with a high number of simulated casualties.

The primary objective was to enhance the readiness of on-site forces and improve coordination between security and emergency services during a real-time incident. Dozens of MDA paramedics and EMTs participated, utilizing ambulances, intensive care units, MDA helicopters, medical motorcycles, and specialized vehicles for mass casualty incidents.

Training included blood delivery, casualty search and rescue, triage, on-site emergency care, and rapid evacuation to hospitals. MDA's drone unit assisted in locating casualties in difficult terrain. A specialized MDA resuscitation bus, capable of treating and evacuating multiple patients simultaneously, worked with a helicopter crew to practice secondary patient distribution and evacuation from Eilat to central Israel hospitals.

The MDA national dispatch center simulated real-time incident management, from receiving emergency calls to dispatching paramedics from central Israel and coordinating blood deliveries from MDA's blood services center in Ramle. The drills also tested the ability to maintain normal emergency response levels for routine calls.

The exercises were pre-planned as part of the 2026 preparedness program.
