Moshe Gafni Bids Farewell to Knesset After 38 Years, Remains Head of Degel HaTorah

Moshe Gafni, chairman of the Degel HaTorah movement, announced his departure from the Knesset after 38 years of service. In a farewell letter to the movement's representatives nationwide, Gafni expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Haredi public, stating he was called to action by Rabbi Elazar Menachem Man Shach.

Gafni emphasized that his actions throughout his tenure were guided by the "great rabbis of Israel," adhering strictly to their directives. He detailed his work in the Knesset, which included advocating for the Haredi community through speeches, legislation, and committee discussions, while also assisting all segments of the Israeli public. He specifically mentioned fighting against "anti-Haredi discrimination" and prioritizing the protection of Haredi education.

Recounting a memory of Rabbi Shach, Gafni shared an anecdote about prioritizing assistance to a widow facing eviction over large budget achievements, which guided his approach to helping individuals throughout his career. He also addressed the current challenges facing the Haredi community, describing a "war" declared by the judicial system and legal advisors against their way of life and the status of yeshiva students.

Despite concluding his Knesset service, Gafni affirmed his continued role as chairman of Degel HaTorah, pledging to keep working alongside the movement's representatives. He thanked the public for their trust and the rabbis for their guidance, concluding with a blessing for a good year, the elevation of Torah study, and the imminent arrival of the Messiah.
