Maccabi Haifa Releases Belgian-Angolan Midfielder Manuel Benson
Maccabi Haifa has officially parted ways with Belgian-Angolan midfielder Manuel Benson after just half a season with the club. The team announced on Tuesday that an agreement had been reached with the player for his release.
Benson, who has a history of injuries, suffered a significant setback during a Toto Cup match against Hapoel Jerusalem. He was diagnosed with a torn anterior cruciate ligament and a torn meniscus, an injury that led Maccabi Haifa to alter their plans for the season and sign Pedro Brazão as his replacement.
Benson joined Maccabi Haifa in January of the previous year, reportedly as the team's highest earner at 600,000 euros. Last season, he made 12 appearances and scored one goal. This season, his only appearance was in the Toto Cup game against Hapoel Jerusalem, where he sustained the injury that has now led to his departure.
