Singer Benצור and Wife Visit Western Wall for Selichot Prayers

Israeli singer David Ben Tzur, known for his religious leanings, visited the Western Wall plaza with his wife, Shirel, for a special Selichot (penitential prayers) tour on Monday evening. The couple was accompanied by Rabbi Shmuel Rabinowitz, the Rabbi of the Western Wall and Holy Sites, and Cantor Elhanan Elbaz, the Sephardic cantor of the Western Wall. Ben Tzur, who has been strengthening his ties with the religious and Torah world in recent months, expressed deep emotion during the visit, stating, "What holiness, we are the most beautiful nation in the world."

The tour took place during the Selichot season, a period when thousands of worshippers gather nightly at the Western Wall to recite the prayers. Earlier in the week, a central Selichot service at the plaza drew over 50,000 people, including prayers for IDF soldiers and national unity.

Ben Tzur has previously spoken about his connection to Judaism, mentioning his consultations with Rabbi Yigal Cohen and his adherence to religious customs, such as maintaining physical distance from women after his engagement. He also shared an anecdote where Rabbi Zamir Cohen told him that his song "Neshama Tzeama" (Thirsty Souls) had achieved in minutes what lectures had struggled to do for years, referring to a perceived increase in modest dress among young women.

Since the beginning of the Hebrew month of Elul, over half a million worshippers have participated in Selichot services at the Western Wall. The Western Wall Heritage Foundation noted a significant increase in attendance this year.
