Uri Maklev Bids Farewell to Public Service After Knesset List Ouster

Veteran Knesset Member Uri Maklev announced his departure from public service following his removal from the Degel HaTorah party's list for the upcoming Knesset elections. In a statement released Tuesday, Maklev expressed gratitude to the public for their trust and support throughout his tenure, emphasizing his commitment to serving the community.

Maklev reflected on his years of service, stating he strived to fulfill his mission with integrity and attentiveness to the public's needs, particularly concerning religious matters and public institutions. He highlighted his involvement in establishing the "Chareidi Authority," which he noted operates in 57 local municipalities, and thanked the public for their feedback and encouragement.

"Every day I felt the mission anew, as if I had just started it today," Maklev wrote, conveying his continued dedication. He concluded by affirming his desire and readiness to continue serving the public from any position, "wherever possible."

The announcement comes after a contentious decision by Degel HaTorah to exclude Maklev from its slate, signaling a significant shift within the party.
