Hapoel Kfar Saba Owner Takes Over Coaching Duties Amidst Crisis

Idan Shom, owner of Hapoel Kfar Saba, a team in Israel's second-tier National League, has temporarily assumed all professional responsibilities, including coaching. He is expected to be on the sidelines for the team's upcoming match against Kiryat Gat on Thursday.

Shom decided to part ways with coach Shahar Weizinger after only the third matchday, following a significant 6-0 loss to Ra'anana and a poor start to the season that included conceding four goals at home against Modi'in. The decision stems from a perceived shortage of qualified coaches suitable for the National League and Shom's conclusion that he must take personal responsibility for the team's current predicament.

Moving forward, any new coach appointed will be subordinate to Shom, who has previously served as interim coach multiple times. Shom canceled Monday's scheduled training session and is set to oversee the first practice under his leadership on Tuesday, in preparation for the critical Thursday game.

A source familiar with the situation stated, "The party is over in Kfar Saba where every coach did what he wanted without advancing the club. We are in a crisis and must quickly stop the negative snowball effect. Idan is experienced and professional enough, and I am sure the players will respect him. We will see a different Kfar Saba in the next game. We must not make the mistake of appointing another unsuitable coach."
