Hostage Avinatan Or Details Months-Long Tunnel Escape Plan

Avinatan Or, who was held hostage by Hamas for over two years, has revealed details of his elaborate escape plan, which involved months of digging a tunnel by hand. In a video shared on his Instagram account, which garnered tens of thousands of views, Or described how he "dug more than ten meters out with my hands" over several months.

Or stated that throughout his captivity, he fought daily "to survive and maintain composure." He explained that the decision to attempt an escape came after more than a year, realizing it was his turn "to fight underground and do everything I can to escape," mirroring the efforts of those fighting for his release above ground.

He also shared that he was held alone for the entirety of his captivity, never encountering other hostages. "I was a prisoner alone for over two years. I never stopped thinking for a moment and didn't forget that I am the only one responsible for my fate at any given moment," he said.

The video was released in conjunction with the launch of his book, "Through the Earth," which chronicles his experiences. Or expressed his feelings about the book's release, stating, "I can't believe the moment has arrived, signing off on my story. 738 days and endless thoughts that I had to share with you."

In a previous post, Or reflected on the lessons learned during his ordeal, noting, "The good comes when you fight for it. When you take one more step forward, even when darkness surrounds you from all directions." He also mused about his book, suggesting he is still discovering its meaning and that life may continue to add new chapters to his story.
