Israel’s Water Authority and the Nature and Parks Authority said on Wednesday that a diesel leak occurred around midday near Lido Beach on the Sea of Galilee. The agencies said the circumstances are under investigation.
According to their joint statement, professionals from the Water Authority are working on site together with the inspection and enforcement unit of the Nature and Parks Authority. No additional details were released about how much fuel leaked or whether there was any environmental impact.
The incident comes just before a busy holiday period in the Sea of Galilee area. Middle school and high school students are set to begin their break this coming weekend, and the lake is expected to draw many families and vacationers as the summer season opens.
