Nigerian Striker Fortune Bassey Returns to Israel, Signs with Maccabi Jaffa
Nigerian forward Fortune Bassey, who previously played for Hapoel Petah Tikva, has reached an agreement with Maccabi Jaffa of the National League. Bassey, 27, was released from Ferencváros this summer and will join Jaffa as a free agent, aiming to help the team avoid relegation.
Bassey began his career in the Czech Republic with Bohemians after being discovered through a talent program in Nigeria. He moved to Ferencváros in 2022 for €1.5 million but struggled to establish himself, leading to several loan spells. During the 2023/24 season, he played for Hapoel Petah Tikva, scoring six goals in 34 appearances across all competitions, though he could not prevent the team from being relegated.
Maccabi Jaffa secured their first win of the season on Thursday, defeating Hapoel Afula 1-0. The addition of Bassey is intended to bolster the team's efforts to climb out of the relegation zone in the National League.
