Israeli Black Market Arms Prices Revealed in Major Criminal Case
Israeli authorities have uncovered a detailed price list from the black market for weapons and ammunition, as part of a major criminal investigation. The indictment, reported by "Israel Hayom," names five residents from Kiryat Tivon and Jaffa as central figures in a long-term illegal arms and ammunition trafficking operation.
The prosecution alleges that the central suspect, Ahmed Tawil, purchased large quantities of 9mm and 5.56mm ammunition, transported it, and then sold it at mass gatherings in Arab communities in Judea and Samaria, such as weddings and celebrations. To demonstrate the ammunition's effectiveness, Tawil allegedly fired some rounds on-site before selling the rest. Over his alleged years of operation, Tawil is accused of selling approximately 15,000 5.56mm rounds and 2,000-3,000 9mm rounds.
The investigation also revealed the profitability of this illicit trade. Prosecutors estimate that 9mm ammunition was bought for about 40 agorot per round and sold for 60-70 agorot, yielding a profit of 1,000-1,500 shekels per 1,000 rounds. 5.56mm rifle ammunition, purchased at 5 shekels per round, was sold for 5-5.5 shekels, with a profit of around 1,000 shekels per box of 990 rounds.
However, the most significant profits were reportedly made from the sale of complete firearms. A "Glock-19" pistol was allegedly sold for 52,000 shekels, another for 45,000 shekels, and three others at a discounted price of 35,000 shekels each. One transaction involved an M16 rifle and a Glock pistol sold together for 100,000 shekels. Other Glock sales were noted at 28,000 and 30,000 shekels. The prosecution views these as part of an extensive and ongoing illegal arms network, not isolated incidents.
Authorities expressed concern over the apparent ease with which the suspects obtained weapons and ammunition, suggesting deep involvement in the underground market. All defendants are currently considered suspects, and the prosecution's claims are subject to judicial review.
