Political Commentator's Car Stolen Twice in Two Months

Political commentator and "Israel Hayom" journalist Nechama Duek had her Toyota Corolla stolen for the second time in two months in late August. While on vacation abroad, Duek received an alert from the vehicle tracking company Ituran that her car had been stolen. Ituran alerted the Israel Police, and officers began a pursuit of the vehicle on main roads. Within approximately 30 minutes of the theft report, police contacted Duek to inform her that they had intercepted the car on Route 446, apprehended the suspect, and prevented the vehicle from crossing into Palestinian Authority territory.

Eyal Saar, Ituran's operational manager, called the incident unusual, noting that the same vehicle was stolen twice in a short period. He credited the swift cooperation between Ituran's enforcement team and the police for the quick recovery of the car in both instances. The first theft occurred in early June, when authorities located the vehicle on the Ayalon South highway and arrested a suspect within five minutes of the report.

Duek's experience highlights the troubling rise in car thefts across Israel, which impacts personal security. However, it also underscores the effectiveness of advanced tracking technologies and the synergy between security companies and the police in combating such crimes. What could have resulted in significant financial loss and distress for Duek during her vacation twice became a demonstration of rapid and decisive action against car thieves.
