Supermarket in Hura Shut Down After Allegedly Detaining Thief

A supermarket in the Bedouin town of Hura, in southern Israel's Negev desert, has been ordered shut for 20 days following an incident where a suspected thief was allegedly detained and bound in a warehouse for hours. Police responded to the scene after receiving a report that a person was being held against their will in the store's warehouse. Upon arrival, officers found an individual tied up with zip ties inside the storage area.

Authorities suspect the store owner and several others apprehended the individual after catching them allegedly stealing from the premises. Police freed the bound person and subsequently arrested five individuals in connection with the incident. The store, identified as a supermarket in Hura, was the site of the alleged illegal detention.

Following the incident, a hearing was held for the business owner with the commander of the City Police Station, Superintendent Yehav Siman. After considering all factors, and on the recommendation of the Southern District's legal counsel, Siman signed the administrative closure order for the supermarket.

Superintendent Siman stated, "We will not allow anyone to take the law into their own hands and act violently or illegally. Even when there is a suspicion of an offense, it must be handled according to the law and by the authorized authorities." He added, "We will act decisively against anyone who harms public order and public safety, and we will use all the powers at our disposal."

The incident occurred last Thursday during an operational activity by the City Police Station officers.
