Rabbi Appoints Chafetz Chaim as Heavenly Advocate for Donors

On the occasion of the yahrzeit (anniversary of death) of Rabbi Yisrael Meir Kagan, known as the Chafetz Chaim, a unique initiative is taking place in Radin, Belarus. Rabbi Y. Fishoff is visiting the Chafetz Chaim's grave on the 24th of Elul to appoint the revered rabbi as a "defense attorney" for donors to the "Kupat Ha'ir" charity fund. The Chafetz Chaim was renowned for his efforts to promote positive speech about fellow Jews and authored seminal works on the laws of speech, such as "Chafetz Chaim" and "Shemirat Halashon." His teachings are considered foundational to the concept of guarding one's tongue.

Donors to Kupat Ha'ir will have their names submitted to Rabbi Fishoff, who will pray for them at the Chafetz Chaim's grave. Following these prayers, Rabbi Fishoff will sign a "defense attorney document" appointing the Chafetz Chaim as an advocate before the heavenly court, particularly for the upcoming High Holy Days. This document, filled out with the donor's name and specific requests, will be given to each donor to keep in their home as a reminder of the Chafetz Chaim's merit and his lifelong advocacy for the Jewish people.

The initiative aims to leverage the Chafetz Chaim's legacy as a defender of Israel and a proponent of positive speech, hoping to secure favorable judgment for the donors in the year ahead. The document serves as a tangible connection to the Chafetz Chaim's spiritual influence and his commitment to speaking well of Jews.
