Major "Sixth Committee" Formed at Beit Midrash Elyon Yeshiva
The Beit Midrash Elyon yeshiva has seen a significant shift this year, with a large and high-caliber group of students opting to continue their studies for an additional year, forming an unprecedented "Sixth Committee." This group will complete a full cycle of Talmudic tractates in the women's and damages orders before their marriages. Traditionally, most students at the yeshiva would enter into marriage arrangements and wed by the end of the "Fifth Committee," which corresponds to the second year of the "kibbutz" (a period of advanced study).
The decision by numerous students to remain an extra year in the yeshiva led to the formation of this substantial "Sixth Committee," the largest since the institution's founding. This development occurred during the summer study period, a time when wedding celebrations for students were frequent. To ensure that participation in these celebrations and the pressures of matchmaking did not disrupt their studies, the students committed to a special undertaking: writing scholarly treatises and original Torah insights on the tractate Bava Batra, which was being studied at the time.
The yeshiva's rabbis praised this initiative, noting that the students demonstrated that intense and focused study is possible even during a busy period, and that they could produce written works worthy of publication. The treatises composed by the students have been compiled into a special booklet titled "Aperion d'Oraysa." A celebratory event was held in the yeshiva's hall to mark the booklet's release, presided over by the Rosh Yeshiva (head of the yeshiva), Rabbi Yirmiyahu Ungarischer. He lauded the students' dedication to Torah study, emphasizing that "even in times of distraction, it is possible to achieve perfection and ascend to high levels through diligent Torah study."
Rabbi Naftali Kupschitz, another head of the yeshiva, also spoke at the event, expressing his admiration for the students' commitment to Torah and their proactive decision to extend their time at the yeshiva. The event concluded with Rabbi Yechiel Fishoff, a head of the Knesset Yitzchak, Modiin Illit yeshiva, delivering a preparatory discourse for the upcoming Days of Mercy and Forgiveness and the Day of Judgment.
