Vizhnitz Rabbi's Son Urges Prayers Amid Father's Health Struggles

Thousands of Vizhnitz Hasidim gathered for the first Selichot prayers of the season, held in the presence of their ailing Rebbe. Before the Rebbe joined the service, his eldest son, Rabbi Chaim Meir Hager, the Av Beis Din of Vizhnitz, delivered an impassioned address to the assembled congregants.

In his speech, Rabbi Hager openly discussed the complex medical treatments his father, the Vizhnitz Rebbe, is undergoing. He urged the Hasidim to increase their prayers and supplications for the Rebbe's recovery, emphasizing that the Rebbe's struggles are not for himself but for the community. He highlighted the Rebbe's unwavering faith and acceptance of medical procedures, noting that the Rebbe does not inquire about the success of treatments but leaves the outcome to God.

Rabbi Hager stressed the power of prayer, citing recent events where prayers seemed to open new avenues for treatment and recovery. He encouraged the Hasidim to dedicate themselves to reciting the entire Book of Psalms and to increase Torah study, framing these actions as crucial for the Rebbe's well-being and for their own spiritual growth. He questioned how one could achieve proper spiritual elevation without the Rebbe's guidance and the usual Hasidic gatherings.

The address concluded with a plea for the Rebbe's swift and complete recovery, so he can continue to lead the community. Following the speech, the Vizhnitz Rebbe appeared, wrapped in a prayer shawl inherited from his grandfather, and led the Selichot service. The Hasidim then engaged in fervent singing, encouraged by the Rebbe.
