Qatar and Lebanon Discuss Bilateral Ties and Regional Stability

Qatar's Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, spoke by phone with Lebanese Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on Saturday to discuss strengthening bilateral relations and cooperation. Al Thani affirmed Qatar's support for Lebanon's stability and territorial integrity.

The call, detailed in a statement from Qatar's Ministry of Foreign Affairs, also covered regional developments, specifically diplomatic efforts and joint coordination aimed at de-escalation and enhancing regional security and stability.

Al Thani emphasized Qatar's backing for diplomatic initiatives seeking a solution that ensures freedom of maritime navigation and paves the way for a comprehensive agreement for sustainable peace in the region. He reiterated Qatar's steadfast support for Lebanon's stability and unity, and its ongoing solidarity with the Lebanese people.

This discussion occurs amidst recent Israeli military escalations in southern Lebanon, which Israel stated were in response to Hezbollah downing a drone. Israel claims Hezbollah elements fired the drone towards its forces operating in what it calls the "security zone" in the country's south.

Israeli airstrikes in southern Lebanon continue despite a US-brokered agreement from June 26, 2026, which stipulates a gradual Israeli withdrawal in exchange for the deployment of the Lebanese army. Lebanese authorities report that since March 2, 2026, Israeli aggression has resulted in over 4,000 deaths, more than 12,000 injuries, and over a million displaced individuals.
