Jerusalem Talmud Torah School Inaugurates New Classrooms

The story · English

Two new classrooms were inaugurated at the "Chazon Meir and Beit Yisrael" Talmud Torah in Jerusalem's Talpiot neighborhood, following a surge in enrollment from families of Torah scholars. The "Bnei Yosef" kindergartens, part of the "Ha'Mayan Ha'Torani" educational network, have seen significant demand.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by numerous dignitaries, including Rabbi Yechiel Abuchatzira, president of the institutions; Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion; Shas party chairman Aryeh Deri; Deputy Mayor Zvika Cohen; and the CEO of the "Bnei Yosef" network, Rabbi Avigdor Ohana. Children greeted the guests with flags.

Mayor Lion and Rabbi Deri affixed mezuzahs to the new classrooms, with Rabbi Abuchatzira also participating. Rabbi Abuchatzira blessed the children, invoking the merit of his ancestors, Rabbi Meir Abuchatzira and Rabbi Yisrael Abuchatzira, whose names the institution bears.

During a tour, Mayor Lion was moved to see a sign indicating that second and third graders had committed to studying the tractate "Berachot" in memory of his late father, Cantor Shalom ben Moshe Leon. The event concluded with speeches in the study hall, where speakers praised the school's growth and commitment to educating children in Jewish tradition.

While the school currently operates in portable structures, officials pledged to work towards establishing a larger, more spacious building to accommodate the students.
