Iran Seeks Coordinated Multi-Front Attack on Israel Following October 7 Failures

Iran is reportedly working to establish a mechanism for a coordinated, multi-front attack against Israel, aiming to rectify perceived shortcomings from the October 7th Hamas-led assault. Israeli assessments indicate Tehran's goal is to ensure its regional allies engage simultaneously, a key element that was missing on October 7th when Hamas acted largely alone.

The potential coalition includes Hezbollah in Lebanon, Hamas in Gaza, the Houthis in Yemen, and Iran-backed militias in Iraq. The primary objective is to pre-establish communication and coordination channels among these groups before any future campaign begins.

Hamas documents recovered after October 7th revealed that Yahya Sinwar had considered a broader regional war and the need for external communication links. However, full coordination was not achieved before the attack, with reports suggesting Iran and Hezbollah lacked complete information about the operation's timing and scope. Sinwar apparently gambled that the initial attack's scale would compel other Iranian proxies to join.

While Hezbollah did launch rockets into northern Israel, a synchronized offensive did not materialize. Tehran is now reportedly attempting to shift its strategy towards a unified operation from the outset, rather than a staggered escalation. The recent leadership change in Hamas, with Khalil al-Hayya, known for his close ties to Iran, taking over, could facilitate this renewed strategic link.

Israel has observed signs of renewed coordination within Iran's regional network, with Hamas and Hezbollah reportedly resuming joint actions with Iranian assistance. This includes efforts to increase pressure on Israel from multiple fronts. High-ranking officials from Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) have reportedly held meetings with Hezbollah, Houthi, and Iraqi militia commanders, including joint phone conferences and on-site advisory roles.

Concurrently, Iran is focused on rebuilding its military capabilities, including missile and drone production. This comes amid shifts in its regional alliance structure, with the weakening of Hezbollah and the Syrian regime elevating the roles of Iraqi and Houthi forces. Joint exercises and closer political and military alignment are reportedly underway among these allies.
