Police in northern Israel arrested an illegal resident from Khan Younis during an operation in Tamra to locate people staying in the country unlawfully and related offenses. The incident took place at the start of the week, when officers and Northern Border Police spotted a suspicious vehicle while operating in the city.
During the vehicle inspection, police saw one suspect flee the scene and run toward open ground. Officers and Border Police troops chased him on foot and found him hiding among bushes near residential buildings.
The suspect was arrested and taken for questioning at a police station. Police said he is a resident of Khan Younis who was in Israel illegally. His detention was extended by the Haifa Magistrate’s Court for further investigation.
After the investigation ended, prosecutors filed an indictment against him and also requested that he remain in custody until the end of the legal proceedings. Israel Police said they will continue acting against illegal residents and anyone who helps them enter, transport them, or house them inside the country.
