Lebanese Sunni Leader Slams Hezbollah Over Reported Israeli Capture of Strategic Ridge
Prominent Lebanese Sunni leader Fouad Makhzoumi has sharply criticized Hezbollah, accusing the group of prioritizing its own power over the defense of Lebanon. Makhzoumi's remarks came in response to Israeli reports claiming the capture of the strategic Ali al-Taher ridge.
Makhzoumi questioned Hezbollah's actions, suggesting that if the reports are true, the group effectively handed the ridge over to Israel rather than allowing the Lebanese army to control it. He argued that Hezbollah's weapons, which he claimed prevent the Lebanese army from operating, failed to stop an Israeli advance.
"What logic and what sense can accept such a thing?" Makhzoumi asked, rhetorically. He further questioned Hezbollah's vision for Lebanon, where the group allegedly maintains exclusive control over weaponry and decision-making, while residents of Jabal Amel lose their land and Shiites in the south suffer economic and personal losses.
Makhzoumi urged Hezbollah to surrender its weapons to the state to prevent the complete loss of Lebanon, stating that the Lebanese people have reached their breaking point and can no longer endure the situation. The strong condemnation highlights internal Lebanese political divisions amidst escalating regional tensions.
