Shiite Cleric Muhammad Al-Fuani Condemns Hezbollah, Calls for Improved Israel-Lebanon Relations
Sheikh Muhammad Al-Fuani, a Shiite cleric in exile known for opposing Hezbollah, criticized the Lebanese militant group in an interview on the Kan News program "In Our Neighborhood" on Thursday. He accused Hezbollah of hypocrisy, stating that although the group claims to uphold religious values and morality, its actions contradict its words. Al-Fuani said Hezbollah has brought devastation to Lebanon, making the country a target of hatred and disdain.
He further explained that Iran manipulated the oppressed Shiite community with the false doctrine of "Wilayat al-Faqih" (absolute religious rule), turning them into victims who were forced to fight and die. According to Al-Fuani, this has led to lost livelihoods and shattered dreams among Hezbollah's base, and now the families of those killed harbor deep resentment toward the organization.
Al-Fuani's remarks reflect growing internal criticism of Hezbollah within Lebanon and highlight his call for establishing better relations with Israel, suggesting a shift in perspective among some Lebanese Shiite figures. His interview underscores the complex dynamics in Lebanon involving Hezbollah's influence, Iranian involvement, and the broader regional tensions.
