Gilad Erdan Withdraws Unity Party from Upcoming Election

Gilad Erdan, chairman of the "Unity" party, announced on Friday that his party will not run in the upcoming elections, just one month after launching the party in early August. The decision came after internal polls indicated the party was unlikely to pass the electoral threshold. This follows the failure of advanced negotiations to merge with Benny Gantz's "Blue and White" party.

In his official statement, Erdan explained that the public's primary concern in the upcoming election is a clear decision on the prime minister's identity, with less emphasis on a broad unity government. Despite significant efforts, the "Unity" party has not garnered enough support to ensure it passes the electoral threshold, and potential mergers with other parties in the "unity bloc" have not materialized. Therefore, Erdan decided the party would withdraw from the race.

Erdan, who founded the party with figures like Yuli Edelstein, Aliza Bloch, Oren Smadja, and Hazi Nehama, had based its platform on a broad Zionist government and a uniform conscription law. The party had also attracted interest from Likud Knesset members.

Erdan concluded by stating that leadership requires acknowledging reality and acting responsibly, ensuring voters' voices influence the election outcome rather than being wasted. He affirmed his commitment to public service and his path as a public servant, despite the party's withdrawal.
