IDF Strikes Gaza After Forces Targeted; Jerusalem Stabbing Attempt Foiled

The Israeli military (IDF) reported that its forces operating in eastern northern Gaza were targeted by gunfire on Friday morning. No soldiers were injured in the incident. In response, the IDF struck targets in the area, condemning the act as a "blatant violation of the ceasefire agreement." Separately, Israeli police reported that a suspect attempted a knife attack near the Damascus Gate in Jerusalem's Old City. Security forces "neutralized" the assailant, and no officers were reported injured.

In international news, South Korea is considering a military deployment to the Strait of Hormuz by the end of the year to help ensure freedom of navigation, according to Reuters, citing government and military sources. Options being studied include a maritime patrol aircraft, a logistics support vessel, or a specialized mine-clearing unit. Discussions have occurred with the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. However, the South Korean presidency clarified that while discussions about supporting freedom of navigation are ongoing, reports of a decided deployment were "different from reality."
