According to Arab media, the event began when a special forces unit, possibly operating with Israeli backing or comprised of anti-Hamas militias, was exposed in the Al-Kutiba area. Hamas operatives reportedly arrived, leading to an exchange of fire. Israeli aircraft then conducted strikes in the area, with some reports suggesting the strikes were intended to aid the extraction of the exposed force. Two vehicles reportedly carrying militants were hit by missiles.

While some Palestinian sources claim the exposed unit was not Israeli but rather collaborators or members of an anti-Hamas militia, and that the strikes were to assist them, Israel has not officially confirmed these details. Reports from Gaza indicated at least one person was killed and several others injured during the incident, with claims of 18 airstrikes. Israeli shell casings and weapons were reportedly found at the scene.
