Thousands of mourners accompanied Rabbi Chaim Dov Halperin, rabbi of the Vuslovi study hall in Bnei Brak, to burial today. He died at age 47 after severe suffering. Halperin was the son of the current Vuslovi Rebbe and the son-in-law of the Bohush Rebbe.
The funeral began at the Vuslovi study hall on Sorotzkin Street in Bnei Brak, which could not hold the crowds. Psalms were recited at the start, and because today was Rosh Chodesh, only brief farewell remarks were delivered instead of eulogies. Rabbi Yitzchak Shmuel Schwartz, rabbi of the Chisda synagogue, spoke first, mourning what he called a major loss for Bnei Brak. Halperin’s brother, Rabbi Yitzchak Halperin, then spoke on behalf of the family and the worshippers, prompting tears from those present.
After the eulogies, the sons said Kaddish, and the bier was taken to the Bohush grand study hall on Hagi Street. There, Rabbi Benyamin Tobias, rabbi of the Bohush community, bid farewell, followed by Rabbi David Feinstein, head of the Beit Yehuda yeshiva, who spoke with great anguish. The most painful moment came when the orphaned young sons approached the bier to recite Kaddish, including the youngest son, who had married less than 30 days ago while his father was still alive and able to lead him under the chuppah in his final strength.
The procession passed through Bnei Brak and Givatayim, where leading rabbis from the Ruzhin dynasty, including the Boyan and Sadigura Rebbes, joined the crowd alongside the Shvil HaLevi and Biala Ramat Aharon Rebbes and other family members. Halperin was buried in Nahalat Yitzchak cemetery in Givatayim, near the graves of his ancestors, with hundreds of Hasidim and family members weeping at the burial.
