Karin Elharrar Quits Yesh Atid Party Ahead of Elections

Member of Knesset Karin Elharrar, who previously served as Israel's Energy Minister, announced on Thursday that she will not run in the upcoming Knesset elections on the Yesh Atid party list. Elharrar stated that party leader Yair Lapid had brought her into politics 14 years prior and expressed gratitude for the opportunity, calling him a true leader dedicated to the country's welfare.

Elharrar reflected on her time in politics, highlighting her involvement in establishing Yesh Atid, serving in both coalition and opposition, chairing Knesset committees, and her tenure as Energy Minister. She also mentioned advancing significant legislation for at-risk youth and women's rights, and collaborating with dedicated colleagues.

Despite her departure from the electoral list, Elharrar affirmed her continued commitment to Yesh Atid, stating it remains her political home. She pledged to participate in the upcoming election campaign and contribute to the party's efforts. Her decision follows a series of departures from the party.

Earlier this week, MK Miki Levy announced he would not seek re-election but would serve as the party's tribunal head. This came shortly after MK Meir Cohen's announcement of his departure, with Cohen set to become the chairman and president of the Yesh Atid conference. Additionally, MK Elazar Stern left Yesh Atid three weeks ago to join Gadi Eisenkot's "Yisrael" party, and Yoav Segalovitz resigned from the Knesset and Yesh Atid earlier this month to join Mansour Abbas's Ra'am party.
