Karin Elharrar to Leave Knesset Race, Citing New Challenges

Member of Knesset Karin Elharrar announced Thursday she will not seek reelection to the Knesset with the Yesh Atid party, concluding 14 years of service in parliament and government. Elharrar, who previously served as Minister of Energy and chaired Knesset committees, stated that after achieving her goals, she and her family decided it was time for a new challenge. She emphasized that she is not leaving Yesh Atid and intends to actively participate in the party's upcoming election campaign.

"Fourteen years ago, Yair Lapid brought me into the founding list of Yesh Atid and opened the door for me to the exciting political world, for which I will always be grateful," Elharrar wrote in her statement. She concluded her message by urging supporters to "go, give it your all, and win the most important elections there are and bring about the correction."

Elharrar's departure follows a series of similar announcements from other Yesh Atid lawmakers. On Wednesday, MKs Debi Biton and Tatiana Mazarsky confirmed they would not run in the next election. The day before, former Knesset Speaker Mickey Levy also announced his withdrawal after meeting with party leader Yair Lapid; reports indicate Levy will serve as the party's tribunal chairman. Former Minister Meir Cohen previously declared he would not run, and is expected to become chairman and president of the Yesh Atid conference. Elharrar is the fifth Knesset member from the party to announce they will not be running in the upcoming elections.
