Yair Netanyahu's Lawyer Says Police Investigating Address Leak
Yair Netanyahu's attorney, Uriel Nitzani, stated that Israeli police have contacted him regarding the publication of Netanyahu's exact address in Miami. The attorney confirmed that the police are investigating the matter, which arose after journalist Uri Misgav published the address. Following the publication, Netanyahu and Nitzani sent a pre-litigation demand to Misgav and requested the Israeli Police Commissioner to launch an investigation.
Nitzani explained in a radio interview that the publication of the address poses a security threat to Netanyahu, who is under protection and has received threats, including from the Shin Bet. He emphasized that publishing a person's exact home address constitutes a violation of privacy and the law, especially for someone under security threats. Nitzani noted that Misgav had previously published Netanyahu's address, and this latest publication was the most detailed, including apartment and building numbers, which he deemed unrelated to journalistic work. He also mentioned journalist Ilan Louch as having published identifying information about Netanyahu's whereabouts.
The attorney indicated that there is cooperation between Israeli and American security services regarding the incident. He declined to comment on specific details of any potential incident but confirmed that the request to the police commissioner concerned events revealed through media reports. Nitzani asserted that the only conspiracy at play is a campaign against the Prime Minister's wife.
Separately, Nitzani addressed statements made by Sara Netanyahu concerning Yair Golan, which were broadcast on Channel 14. He refuted claims that Sara Netanyahu was spreading conspiracy theories, stating that her side rejects such assertions and that the "only conspiracy" is a campaign against her. Nitzani clarified that Sara Netanyahu did not support these theories but rejected them during an interview, and her words were being used in a political campaign to portray her as calling Golan a traitor.
Nitzani explained that the criticism directed at Golan was not about him receiving information on October 7th but rather about Prime Minister Netanyahu allegedly not being informed earlier. He stated that information about the events was known earlier in the night, yet the Prime Minister was only informed at 6:30 AM. Nitzani cited testimony presented to the High Court of Justice and comments by former Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar regarding this delay in informing the Prime Minister. He considered it "unbearable" that the Prime Minister was informed only after the border breach began, suggesting a high-ranking officer could have received information during the event's development. Nitzani concluded by calling for an independent investigation into the October 7th events to learn lessons and prevent future occurrences, not just to assign blame.
