During a formal meeting at the G7 summit in France, a brief exchange between Donald Trump and the president of the United Arab Emirates drew laughter from the room and quickly went viral. The summit had invited leaders from around the world, including nonmember countries, and several American officials were also present in the room.
At the start of the clip, the Emirati leader can be heard speaking in a very low, almost whispered voice. He tells Trump, “How can we make our relationship even better?” Trump listens closely, leans forward, shakes his hand warmly, and replies with a smile, “Well, I like you, my friend.”
Trump then turns to the others in the room and says, “You understand, when you are so rich, you can speak so softly.” He adds, “I was just wondering, can anybody even hear that? But when you are so rich, you have such confidence that you do not need to raise your voice.” The remarks prompted laughter from those present, including members of the American delegation.
Trump ended by praising the Emirati leader, saying, “He is great,” before addressing the media crew and asking, “So, do you have any questions?” The article does not say whether the exchange led to any concrete diplomatic outcome.
