Police Bust Secret Underage Marriage Ring in Yavne'el

Northern District Police conducted a targeted operation in the community of Yavne'el on Thursday, arresting 16 individuals suspected of involvement in organizing and conducting illegal marriages, primarily involving minors. The arrests are part of a prolonged undercover investigation into a phenomenon occurring within a small, closed community in the town.

Investigators believe some of the individuals were already married, while others were in the process of planning further illegal ceremonies. Police described a sophisticated method used to conceal these weddings, which included holding them in the early morning hours with a limited, pre-selected group of attendees. The locations were kept secret from participants until the last moment.

A key tactic employed by the organizers was a strict ban on mobile phones and cameras at the ceremonies, aimed at preventing photographic evidence of the illegal unions. Following these clandestine religious ceremonies, the involved parties would often hold a separate, public celebration presented as an innocent engagement party, attended by a larger group of family and guests.

This operation follows a similar sweep just weeks prior, which led to the detention of over 20 additional suspects for involvement in comparable cases in the same area. The investigation is ongoing.
